Welcome from the President

Mario Nubile

EuCornea President

We were delighted that you were here with us for Day 1 of the 2026 Eucornea Congress in beautiful and sunny Porto.

Today’s congress programme featured a joint symposium with the Portuguese Society of Ophthalmology, as well as a symposium with the European Eye Bank Association. The day also included two DMEK Wetlabs, four Presented Poster Sessions, and three Instructional Courses on topics from Crosslinking to Suturing Corneal Grafts. In addition, the second Industry Innovation Session highlighted key developments and emerging technologies, while the Young Academic and Senior Hot Topic Session on Challenging Surgical Cases in Cornea generated lively discussion and valuable clinical insight.

We hope you enjoyed today’s Welcome Reception on the riverside of the congress centre and had an opportunity to make some memories while reconnecting with colleagues.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all attendees, the Scientific Committee, our sister societies, faculty members, and industry partners and, of course, a special thank you to the Portuguese Society of Ophthalmology for their wonderful collaboration as well as their generous support of the Welcome Reception.

Saturday at Eucornea 2026 brings together some of the Congress’s flagship sessions, combining scientific excellence, practical education, and interactive learning opportunities. The day includes the official Opening Ceremony followed by the Medal Lecture delivered by Beatrice Cochener-Lamard, ‘From Understanding to Control: AI in the Anterior Segment’ a topic bound to be of interest to all delegates. This year’s Global Symposium will focus on Microbial Keratitis: Controversies and Clinical Consensus.

Delegates can also participate in the Independent Medical Education (IME) Symposium on Inflammation in Ocular Surface Disease: Diagnosis and Management in Today’s Practice, while the new Corneal Suturing DryLabs offer hands-on training through guided, step-by-step practice sessions.

Adding an engaging and competitive element to the programme, the Young Ophthalmologist’s Quiz Challenge invites trainees and young ophthalmologists to test their knowledge and learn alongside peers in a fun and interactive format.

We hope this congress continues to provide a source of inspiration, knowledge, and lasting professional connection as we continue to explore the future of corneal and ocular surface medicine together. And we hope you enjoy your time outside of the congress centre too! Explore the full Saturday programme here
