Béatrice Cochener-Lamard has been Head of the Ophthalmology Department at Brest University Hospital in France since 2000 and a Professor of Ophthalmology since 2002. She served as President of the French Society of Ophthalmology (SFO) from 2009 to 2011, is Deputy President of the National Association of Ophthalmology (SNOF), and is a past president of the French Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (SAFIR). Since 2011, she has been Head of the French Academy of Ophthalmology, the national professional board of ophthalmology.
At the international level, Beatrice Cochener-Lamard has been an active member of multiple ESCRS committees and served as ESCRS President from 2019 – 2020. She is currently President of Eucornea and Dean of the University of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Her main areas of clinical interest include anterior segment disease, refractive surgery, and corneal surgery. She received the French Legion of Honor in 2013 – a French distinction of high merit – in recognition of her contributions to medicine.
In research, she is a member of the Medical Imaging Laboratory (Inserm LATIM, Brest), working at the intersection of artificial intelligence and medicine. She has been invited to speak at numerous international conferences and has contributed to more than 200 publications. She oversaw the SFO national reports on Presbyopia (2012) and Ocular Surface Disease (2016) and is the author of two books on refractive surgery (2016) and a forthcoming volume on the cornea in 3D (2025).
