Welcome from the President

Beatrice Cochener-Lamard

EuCornea President

Good evening colleagues and friends,

We hope you had a wonderful evening exploring the city of Prague yesterday and were ready for a great day of learning, networking and much more!

As we gathered for Day 2 of our congress, we proudly continued the established Eucornea tradition of fostering collaboration and innovation and excellence in corneal science and care.  Today’s programme brought a rich and diverse lineup led by experts from around the world.

We covered many topics and garnered knowledge from different areas around the globe.  We started our day with a Symposium on Fuch’s Dystrophy Management held in collaboration with the Czech Society.  This was followed by the Opening Ceremony where we also enjoyed this year’s highly anticipated Eucornea Medal Lecture on Femtosecond Keratoplasty, Coming of Age? delivered by Jod Mehta from Singapore.

Our Global Symposium ‘Corneal Infection Management Around the World’ brought together an international panel of experts from Eucornea, the Cornea Society, PanCornea, the Asia Cornea Society, and ESCRS to share insights and best practices from across continents.

Later, the Symposium on the Surgical Management of Complex Ocular Surface Diseases, held in conjunction with the ESCRS Cornea Committee, addressed critical surgical challenges and innovations in the field.

Today also featured:

2 Free Paper Sessions

5 Presented Poster Sessions

3 Instructional Courses

2 Industry Satellite Symposia (Sponsored by Laboratoires Thea in the morning and SIFI in the afternoon)

Lunchtime brought an Independent Medical Education Symposium on Ocular Surface Disease, Lipid Layer and Eyelid Margin: Diagnosis & Management in Today’s Practice.  This IME programme was made possible by the sponsorship of both Alcon and Tarsus Pharmacueticals

For the first time in several years, we were delighted to see the return of DMEK Wetlabs at the annual congress.  Their return has been met with overwhelming enthusiasm, as reflected in how quickly they sold out—clearly demonstrating the high demand for hands-on surgical training opportunities in our community.  All 32 of our participants benefitted from today’s wetlabs and the guidance of the experienced instructors.

A special thank you goes to Sadeer Hannush & Federico Badala, as well as to our valued partners—Geuder, Monza Eye Bank, AltruVision Eye Bank, the Venice Eye Bank and Prague Eye Bank—for their generous support and collaboration, which made it possible to bring these highly sought-after wetlabs back to the Congress. We are proud to once again offer this vital practical learning experience to our delegates.

We concluded the day with the second Young Academic & Senior Hot Topic Session, which focused on Challenging Surgical Cases in Cornea, followed by the first-ever Young Academic Challenge Quiz – it was a perfect way to wrap up a stimulating day.

On a personal note, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Mario Nubile, who officially became the next President of Eucornea during today’s Opening Ceremony. It has been a true honour to serve as President of this growing and dynamic Society. I am deeply proud of what we have accomplished together and look forward with excitement to the Society’s continued evolution and success under Mario’s leadership.Â
