
Marc Labetoulle
Marc Labetoulle is Chairman and Professor of Ophthalmology at Paris-Sud University and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at South Paris University Hospital. He leaded several clinical research programs in the field of immune and infectious disorders of the eye, especially those of the ocular surface. For the last 20 years, he has been involved in the clinical follow-up of patients recurrent herpetic/zoster diseases or with Sjögren’s syndrome, and co-published the official definition of that syndrome. He is also involved in basic research, leading a group working on the pathogenesis of Herpes simplex virus type 1, especially on the mechanisms involved in the balance between latency and reactivation in the nervous system and then in the ocular tissues. He has around 190 peer-reviewed publications to his credit that have appeared in journals such as Progress in Retinal and Eye Research, Ophthalmology, Archives of Ophthalmology, Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes and Human Retrovirology, Investigative Ophthalmology and Vision Science and Journal of Virology or PLOS Pathogens.
